This is a documentary portrait of Betty Ling, the graceful hands behind the art of modern brush and pointed pen calligraphy.
Betty offers bespoke custom handwritten calligraphy (a lot of words to say that her artistry is one-of-a-kind and perfect crafts(wo)manship! As I watched her work, I marveled at the tools necessary to achieve this flawless look - the inks, the different nibs that required pliers for adjustments and switches - and of course, Betty’s hands themselves, which have perfected the art of pointed pen and brush calligraphy strokes. Did you know that calligraphy is based on oval shapes, and not circles? Yeah, me neither!
